CALCULATION OF THE KILOMETER

The minimum mileage (1,600 km) and the maximum one (2,900 km) will be extrapolated EXCLUSIVELY from the tracker. No other data will be opposable to the Organization, given that it is certain that the spatial value reported by any navigator is also the result of mere “international convention” tacitly approved and applied, albeit with discards – considered as normal “tolerance” and therefore, for the in fact, “erga omnes tolerated” – and used by the same software and hardware platforms dedicated to measuring land distances.The kilometric development of the route of the first 10 classified will, in any case, be subject to verification by the Race Direction.Therefore, the first 10 classified are obliged to deliver their navigation instruments (navigators, ipads, mobile phones and / or any other electronic instrument used to follow the path of the four stages) to the Race Direction.Pilots are recommended to take care that the route data are stored and not to delete them.Failing this, the sanction of the “exclusion from the final classification” is foreseen (see art. 6 Regulations).
ROAD CLASSIFICATION

Given that the following does not have an exhaustive value but – as far as possible in detail, only an indicative value – in order to prevent requests from the Pilots for clarification, please note. The inspections and information acquired in previous editions of the CENTOPASSI highlighted the IMPOSSIBILITY of univocal identification as “roads of great communication” and / or “fast scrolling” (whose travel during the CENTOPASSI is forbidden) rather than as “state roads” (which, on the other hand, are in principle practicable during the rally and the race) of numerous Italian road routes. This impossibility depends, in some cases on omission by the Road Owners, in others on the placement of road signs that are inappropriate and inadequate to the actual reality found on the spot and such as to cause confusion in the users; in still others, by measures of authority that have reclassified only some sections – after reconstruction works of the headquarters and / or of the carriageways with and / or without the application of a traffic divider – leaving out to extend the reclassification to the entire road. A particularly striking case and which we therefore cite as an example, is the main road connection between Avezzano (AQ) and Cassino (FR) which passes through Sora (FR), that is the “formally” road called SS690 (Strada Statale 690). In reality this road, although only one lane in the direction of travel and without a central traffic divider, in the Avezzano – Sora section is reported on site as a real SSV; while in the Sora – Cassino section it is reported locally as S.R. (regional road) although Google Earth expressly classifies it S.S.V.

Another identical case is the S.S. 693 better known as Strada Scorrimento Veloce del Gargano, to all intents and purposes a S.S.V. (therefore absolutely prohibited) although classified as S.S., that is, as a State Road. This confusing situation is common to several other roads in the east-west route between Molise and Lazio / Campania and between Puglia and Campania / Basilicata, as well as in the so-called “quadrilateral” which affects and crosses the central part of Italy from east to west connecting the Adriatic with the Tyrrhenian via Marche / Umbria / Tuscany. Specifically, then, precisely of this geographical area, the so-called roads. “Quadrilateral” are still being completed so there are some stretches that were passable during the 2019 edition of CENTOPASSI and that currently, however, as widely modified and modernized, are no longer viable. Substantially similar or even identical situations are found in the area of Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige, both in the North-South direction (for example the S.S. 47) and East-West and vice versa; as well as in Lombardy (for example the ss36 heading north to Trivio Fuentes; and the SS38 to be grafted with SS36 heading east to Bivio Traona). For this reason, we consider it appropriate to provide the following specifications which integrate the examples referred to in art. 1.5 of the Regulations and which should be considered general and rough indications to keep in mind when planning and building your own path.

They are prohibited – and therefore cannot be followed under penalty of the provisions of art. 6.2- regardless of their classification, roads with the following characteristics:

  1. all the ring roads and ring roads of all Italian cities, with and / or without a traffic divider, however, made (pavement, flowerbed, guardrail, concrete and / or other material barrier);
  2. all the High Speed Roads (S.S.V.) expressly qualified as such by the signs placed along them by the owner and / or considered by Google Earth;
  3. all the highways (S.G.C.) expressly qualified as such by the signs placed along them by the owner and / or considered by Google Earth;
  4. all roads, however classified (therefore also the S.S.), which have at least one of the following specifications:
    a) the presence of a traffic divider separating the running directions, in any case;
    b) absence of level crossings with other cross roads and / or tangents;
    c) presence of acceleration lanes for their entry and / or deceleration lanes at the exits (attention:acceleration / deceleration lanes of the simple “support lanes” of a few tens of meters built and / or added after the construction of the road for the sole purpose of facilitating the influx / outflow of vehicles without causing traffic slowdown are not considered);
    d) presence of two lanes for regular direction of travel regardless of the presence or absence of the emergency lane;
    e) presence of access ramps and / or exits articulated in canalized crossings
    (attention:Artifacts made to allow the entry / exit of vehicles in / from the road at a higher level than another that flows at a lower level are not considered ramps; classic situation of viaducts built from the 90s onwards to eliminate intersections between roads of the same category of importance and / or equal levels of traffic volume).(all the above features are viewable from Google earth).For a better understanding let’s make some examples.Cases such as the SS690 Avezzano – Cassino and / or others such as some of the different variants of the SS17 present in the North-South route, from Abruzzo to Molise and Puglia (Zona Roccaraso – Castel di Sangro – Isernia etc), as well as the SS 47 between Veneto and Trantino Alto Adige for example, the same are EXCLUSIVELY passable for those stretches in which they DO NOT exhibit any of the aforementioned characteristics provided they enter and exit the same through satin crossings (see Google earth).Still as an example, the Castel di Sangro fast link – Alfedena / Cerro al Volturno / SS158 junction, although not expressly classified neither as SSV, nor as SGC, is FORBIDDEN as it has the characteristics referred to in point 4, letter . b), c) e).Still by way of example, the S.S.17 in the L’Aquila – Campobasso stretch is VALIDLY practicable in some stretches, with the exclusion of others on the basis of the indications above.The links below refer to maps that contain lists of roads that are certainly forbidden

svg but, we repeat, even these references should not be considered exhaustive. We repeat: the possible presence of exit / access ramps in correspondence with viaducts and / or pronounced differences in height is not, in itself, sufficient to consider the road that presents this element as prohibited pursuant to art. 1.5 of the Regulations. ========= Therefore, it is highly recommended to study and plan the route with particular accuracy, if possible avoiding completely to insert roads that could expose you to the risk of the sanction foreseen by art. 6.2 of the Regulations. It should be noted that any violation is very easily detectable by the Race Direction since the map of the prohibited roads, totally and / or in sections, is at an advanced stage of implementation and development. Finally, it should be noted that being one of the main tasks of the Drivers to identify the roads to follow, it is useless to make specific requests to the Race Direction aimed at knowing – indicating the specific road – the possibility or not of following it without incurring penalties, because these requests will not be found (nor could it be otherwise, otherwise the Pilots who ask over those who do not would favor themselves).
